Five expressions you'll hear in your first week

Some phrases show up in every class. Learn these five and you'll follow the conversation much sooner.

1. ¿Qué tal?

A friendly "how are you?" — answer with "Bien, ¿y tú?"

2. ¿Cómo se dice…?

"How do you say…?" Your best tool when a word is missing.

3. Poco a poco

"Little by little." You'll hear it when something feels hard.

4. ¡Qué chévere!

"How cool!" Common in Venezuela, Colombia and the Caribbean.

5. Tu turno

"Your turn." The moment you speak — the most important phrase in class.
