Our class moved to a taquería — and everyone spoke more
La clase se mudó a una taquería
Ordering in Spanish, small talk with the owner, and the moment the quietest student led the table.
Every few weeks we take the class out of the classroom. This time it was a family-run taquería in Indianapolis.
The plan was simple: order, ask one question you didn't prepare, and keep the conversation going for ten minutes without English.
What happened
Nobody ordered perfectly. Everybody ordered. One student asked the owner where her recipe came from, and the answer turned into a story about Michoacán that lasted longer than the tacos.
No tienes que hablar perfecto. Tienes que hablar. You don't have to speak perfectly. You have to speak.
Back in class, we used what we heard — new words, real accents — as the next lesson.
¿Te animas?
Come and live it with us.
